In the DevOps Simulation Workshop, you’ll learn essential DevOps principles, patterns, and practices in an engaging and non-traditional learning environment. Rather than PowerPoint slides and lecture, students will actively participate in the learning experience through a simulation based on the book, The Phoenix Project.
The game starts with Parts Unlimited, a struggling fictional company experiencing poor financial performance. The only way to save Parts Unlimited is an IT-enabled business transformation, code-named The Phoenix Project, with Retail Operations as the business owner of the project. The VP of IT Operations is asked to take the lead of the IT department and ensure The Phoenix Project succeeds. But the VP of IT Operations is facing a huge backlog of issues, features, and projects.
Over the course of four rounds, students will work on IT projects and issues to ensure The Phoenix Project is finished on time. But beware, the business will make additional demands and propose new ideas. External developments outside your control can also derail your plan. Students will act in different roles across business and IT within the Parts Unlimited organization and will be challenged to apply DevOps principles to increase revenue and raise the share price.
